me: no. not from poison ivy.
abby: or from eating something at dinner that your mommy tells you to that you don't want to?

thrifty thursdays

so following in the great blogging footsteps of rocks in my dryer's "works for me wednesday"s, i am going to embark on my own blogging adventure called "thrifty thursdays."

here's the scoop. i'll share some of my favorite thrifty ideas, and you get to play along. add your thrifty tips in the comments section, and we'll all be able to save some cash.

i'll start it off with two--because i love both ideas and can't choose.

FREE ICE CREAM. now who doesn't love ice cream? and free ice cream is even better. well, brusters gives out free ice cream to all kids 40 inches or shorter (but i don't think they are that picky on the height thing. i went with a 5 year old that was well over that and she got free ice cream too.) each child gets either a cup or a cone, no purchase necessary. got to love that! they are training our kids to be addicted. smart move brusters. i've heard, but haven't tried, that you can ask for a kids cone for yourself and it is only $1. "yummy goodness," to quote my abs.

FREE MOVIES. much thanks to misty for passing this tip on at our annual girls' weekend. movie theaters around the country have free or $1 family oriented movies in the summer. theaters in atlanta that i know of, AMC has 10am movies on wednesday for $1 and a discount on popcorn and drinks. regal cinema has free movies on tuesdays and wednesdays at 10am.

blogging 101

so my learning curve is high right now. how do you make links? what is the proper etiquette for responding to comments? is it really okay to write about your children playing with tampons? these and other questions are rolling around in my mind. here are a few i don't have answers to and have no idea of where to get answers except from you all.

why do people not use their family members' real names? is there something i am missing?

is it okay for me to write people's last names on my blogroll or should i just stick to their blog titles?

feel free to educate me.

toothbrushes and tampons

i was attempting to get ready this morning. and here is how my girls entertained themselves.
never in my life did i think the words, "abby, please wait your turn to play with the tampon" would come out of my mouth. nor did i expect to hear, "look at my sling-shot" when referring to the above mentioned tampon.

well, i had wanted to get that closet cleaned out anyway.

please, tell me this is normal.

mondays

i have lived overseas, i have scaled tall mountains (mt. fuji--it counts even if i didn't make it quite to the top, right?), i have carried two babies in my womb and had two c-sections (not sure which was worse-the 9 months or the delivery)....so why is it then that a simple thing like going to the grocery store with two children is such a huge feat?

could it be because of the constant social pressure? the desire to have kids who aren't screaming or whining? could it be the pressure of multi-tasking--getting the best deal while making sure that abby doesn't push julia or that julia doesn't bite abby? or maybe it is the time crunch. trying to go to two stores and make it home before both the food and the children melt. today's stress was trying to teach abby that it was NOT okay to pull the front of my shirt down. she thought pulling my tank top down was quite humorous. lovely. nothing like trying to have teachable moments about modesty in the middle of the frozen food section.




overall, i enjoy these outings. publix and kroger--where BOTH stores opened new boxes of sugar cookies for julia. THANK YOU. where we have fun carts to ride in and adventures in finding the granola bars. but best of all is our little tradition of running through the parking lot to our car in our race car cart.

i'm ready for a nap.

bedtime and butterflies

there is nothing quite like my abs running up to me after bathtime wanting me to put on my butterfly pants and white tank to match her.

and to think, this is just the obvious way that she wants to be like me. sweet and sobering.

strawberry goodness

this week abby and i picked strawberries. well, i picked. she ate. "mmmm. strawberry goodness!" to quote abby.
i froze tons of strawberries to make smoothies all summer...or at least for the next month. what's your favorite smoothie combo?
